The\u00a0#legend<\/a>\u00a0says, there was a wooden chapel built by the Kamsarakans on the site of the present church, where a painting of the Virgin Mary was once found. According to Ghevond Alishan, the painting was painted by Luke the Evangelist, brought to Armenia by\u00a0#GrigorMagistros<\/a>, and in 1828 Armenian immigrants brought from Erzurum to\u00a0#Alexandropol<\/a>. At first it was moved to St. Nshan church, originally named\u00a0#Seven<\/a>\u00a0Wounds. \nCatholicos Nerses of Ashtarak took the\u00a0#icona<\/a>\u00a0to save the people of\u00a0#Etchmiadzin<\/a>\u00a0from drought. The icona justifying expectations, brought the people out of the drought. The icon is returned to Alexandropol only if a new church is built to preserve it. The honorable people of Alexandropol are building a new church called “Surb Astvatsatsin”. Thus,\u00a0#Yotverk<\/a>\u00a0is returned to\u00a0#Gyumri<\/a>\u00a0and is still kept there.
