This Armenian monastery complex (10-13th century)\u00a0 is located in the village of Achajur in the Tavush provine. The complex consists of the main church, the vestibule and the 2nd ancient church. According to the khachkar\u2019s\u00a0 inscription, which\u00a0 preserved in the territory of the monastery, it was founded in 1205.<\/p>\n

A tradition has been preserved about Makaravank, that the monastery was built by master named Makar and his son. The son was carrying stones, making patterns, and the father was arranging them. The walls of the monastery gradually rose, and \u00a0Makar master was cut off from the ground.\u00a0 He spent the nights on the half-finished walls of the monastery until he finished the construction.<\/p>\n

One day, master Makar notices that the stones do not intersect and the ornaments are not the same. He asks his son from above.<<What happened?>>. They answer, that the boy is sick. Makar understands that his son is gone. According to tradition, the master does\u2019nt leave the construction of the holy temple unfinished.<\/p>\n

After the construction, he jumped from the top of the monastery and died. The master is buried under the wall of the monastery and the monastery is called Makaravank.<\/p>\n
