The monument of Armenian Genocide or Tsitsernakaberd, was built in Yerevan in 1966. The memorial consists of 12 stone slabs, the material is granite and basalt.
On March 16, in 1965, the Council of Ministers of the ASSR made a decision to build: “Monument to perpetuate the memory of the victims of the Genocide of 1915”. The construction works started, when Anton Kochinyan was already the first secretary of the CPC Central Committee.
The sculptor of this monument is Van Khachatryan, the architect is Artur Tarkhanyan and Sashur Kalashyan. The construction of the monument was completed in 1967, and the ceremonial opening took place in 1967, on November 29. The leadership of the republic led by Anton Kochinyan, the first secretary of the CPC Central Committee, visited Tsitsernakaberd and lit the unquenchable fire.
The memorial has become a place of pilgrimage for all armenians. Every year, on April 24, hundreds of thousands of Armenians and foreigners climb here.
