St. Gayane monastery is a medieval religious structure in Etchmiadzin city. According to the tradition, Gayane was the matriarch of Christian virgins. In 630, Catholicos Ezr I built the church of St. Gayane on her grave instead of the chapel․ In 1652, the roof and the dome of the church were restored.
In 1764, Simeon I Yerevantsi, in the area of the St. Gayane church built a large freezer underground for the monastery’s food.
