The construction of the Victory park began in 1930s, and the park’s memorial was opened on November 29, 1950. After the Great Patriotic War, it was renamed to “Haghtanak” /Victory/ park, and trees were planted in its deserted areas over the years.
In 1950 on November 29, the statue of Stalin was also opened in the park, which was later replaced by the Mother Armenia monument. In 1970, the museum dedicated to Armenia’s participation in the Great Patriotic War was opened here, which in 1995 was renamed “Mother Armenia” military museum.
In 1955-1958, carousels were installed in the park, in 1988-1989, the “Rotating Wheel” carousel was repaired. The construction of the lake, in the park, began, which replicates the shape of Lake Sevan. The depth of the lake in the deepest part is 8.5 meters, it was intended for swimming, but the water was also used for irrigation. Boating is now possible in the lake.
In 2011, Ruben Vardanyan started the reconstruction project of “Haghtanak” park.
The structure of the entrance to the park is symmetrical, each relief sculpture is unique. A lion is carved on the left, a dragon on the right, and a sword in the sun in the center. The bas-reliefs on the back are also not repeated. On the right and left sides are mythical eagle-like birds.
