According to Kirakos Gandzaketsi, Hasan Jalal’s father bequeathed to his son and his wife, “to build a church and a cemetery for our people in Gandzasar”. The construction began in 1216, ended in 1238 and was consecrated in 1240 on the great holiday of Vardavar.
Later, in 1261, after the death of her husband, the wife decided to build the vestibule of Gandzasar, where her husband was buried.
It is said that, Hassan Jalal did not convert, for which he was tortured to death in 1261, then a light fell on Hassan’s body, and a Persian, seeing him, believed that he was a saint, collected the relics of the body and kept them in a dry well. Hasan Jalal’s son brings the relics of his father to his homeland and buring them in the vestibule of the monastery built by his mother. To this day, the tombstone of Jalal Mets is located in the vestibule of the Gandzasar monastery.
