Hero of the Armenian national liberation movement, “Haydukapet” Gevorg Chaush (Gevorg Chavush, Georg Ghazarian), was born in 1870, in Bitlis and died in 1907, on May 27.
Gevorg Chaush was a comrade-in-arms of such famous fighters as Arabo, Aghbyur Serob, Andranik. For the first time, he stood out during the self-defense battles of Sasun in 1891-1893.
Together with Andranik, Gevorg Chaush took revenge for Agbyur Serob’s death. After Serob’s death, many suggested that Gevorg should lead the feedayi, but Gevorg, being a modest man, gave way to Andranik.
One of the most famous battles of Chaush is the battle of Arakelots Monastery, which was organized by Andranik. Gevorg personally led the defense of the village of Ishkhanadzor and had a detachment of loyalists there. Because he had to be an ally with the kurds, that’s why he had a great respect among the kurds, but Chaush brutally punished the kurds, who robbed the armenian people.
He was the only feedayi, who, contrary to all feedayi’s laws, got married.
