Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Alexander Spendiaryan is located in the capital of #Armenia, #Yerevan.
In January1926, it was decided to build Council of People’s Commissars of the Armenian SSR with a theatrical hall in Yerevan. The construction management of this project was assigned to #AlexanderTamanyan. Starting the project, Tamanyan tried to realize all requirements of that time: a theater for 1200 spectators, a concert hall, auditoriums, a library, exhibition halls, group training rooms, a cafeteria.
The construction site of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Armenian SSR was fixed by the general plan of Yerevan. The building is circular, it consists of 2 halls: #AramKhachaturian concert hall – about 1400 seats, Alexander Spendiaryan #NationalOpera and Ballet theater – 1200 seats, which later reached to 1260 seats. The OperaandBallettheater was officially opened in 1933. The first performance on January 20 was the opera “#Almast”. In 1935 the theater was called Opera and Ballet, in 1939 after Al. Spendiaryan State Opera and Ballet Theater, in 1956 – Academic and 1994 – National Academic.
