Construction of the church began in 1858-1872. The church was built in the style of the #CathedralAni. However, the Savior is bigger than Cathedral Ani. The architect was Thaddeus Antikyan, a well-known master craftsman. People say that Thaddeus went to Ani every day by a #phaeton to see the local Katoghike Cathedral and returned in the evening trying to build the Church of the Savior in this way.
Witnesses said the day the church was built turned into a folk festival. Women and girls moved the ground with aprons, the construction was carried out with the funds raised by the population of the city. According to contemporaries, the construction of the church was funded by the famous benefactor, rich Drampyan’s family.
